A death Poem
Tetto Giko wrote his death poem on the last day of his life.
Several days before his death, he had given a sealed message to his followers, forbidding them to read it while he was alive. After he died they read the following words
The truth is never taken
from another
one carries it always
by onself
Katsu!
The word katsu cannot really be translated conceptually. It is a sharp cry used by the Zen teacher and pupil at the moment of enlightenment. The cry appears in many Chinese and Japanese Zen
writings and can be heard even today within monastery walls
Equations:
Existential = the state of being in the world
Ia. Low success /high failure ratio = Existential anxiety
Ib. Existential failure + guilt = Depression + suicide
Ic. Low self concept + lack of meaning in life = Existential vacuum
Id. Existential vacuum + loss of morale = Demoralization
Ie. Existential failure + existential vacuum = Despair
If. Demoralization + despair = Nothingness
"Independence? That’s middle-class blasphemy.
We are all dependent on one another,
every soul of us on earth."
George Bernard Shaw
"Each friend
represents a world in us,
a world possibly not born
until they arrive,
and it is only
by this meeting that
a new world is born."
Anais Nin
"The weaning away from attachment is also a weaning away from living, a way of dying."
